As we all know, Colorado is in a phase called Level 2: Safer At Home & in the Vast, Great Outdoors. Level 2, which went into effect on May 4 (the city of Denver followed on May 8), allows non-critical businesses such as Simplifya to open with restrictions. Beginning May 11, we gave employees the option to return to the office in a very limited way and explained the restrictions in a prior post.
Today is July 10 and we are still at Level 2. We’ve already seen how quickly the virus can come back when restrictions are eased (for example, when restaurants and bars were allowed to reopen) or safety precautions are not followed (for example, larger gatherings for the Independence Day weekend). At the same time, we’ve also proved the spread of the virus can be greatly slowed and controlled. Positivity, hospitalization, and death rates are all lower than two months ago despite the occasional spikes.
With that as background, it seems likely that some form of office restrictions will remain in place for the foreseeable future and so we should create some ground rules around attendance. I’m using the Attendance Policies section of our Employee Handbook (previously not published) to create some ground rules tailored for the unique circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Please review it thoroughly and let me know if you have any questions.
I’ll then follow up with an email asking each of you to reply to acknowledge that you understand the rules. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding – this is a uniquely strange and challenging time, but we will get through it!
Question– I’ve occasionally gone into the office to use the *infinitely* faster internet than what I have at home to get some projects done (upload videos on youtube, uploading into the cloud, etc.). Some projects require multiple editing rounds so if I finish editing on, say Wed, do I have to wait until my next assigned day (in this case, Monday) to go into the office to upload? Or is there a way I can request a switch with someone who isn’t planning on going in on another day?
