Simplifya does Boulder NCIA Caucus

Last night, NCIA held the first of six caucus events that we are sponsoring. This one was in Boulder at the Millennium Harvest House.

NCIA hosts these quarterly events to “educate, connect, and inspire you and your team, with a customized state and federal policy briefing and meaningful networking opportunities with regional and national industry leaders.” My review is … meh. The education piece was light and nothing more than a re-hash of recent legislative activity. The closest they got to inspiring me was with their beer selection. Most of the event was about networking and that part of it was done well.

From my perspective, it was an important event only because we were one of only two “premier” sponsors and the fact that it was in Boulder allowed us to bring more people. We were “Simplifya Strong” with Brooke, Shannon, Emily, John, and me all representing. Brooke killed it with her 60-second sponsor speech.

To be clear, I’m not negative on the value of the event. Brooke and Shannon were busy all night, both before and after the event. It was great to see them in action! I forced myself to do a bit of networking as well and was pleasantly surprised to run into Mike Hayes, the head of CannaTech Denver. He’s somebody I’ve emailed with and seen at other events, but never had the time to actually chat with face to face. Ladies, maybe you could share similar networking stories in the comments?

  1. My story is about Trisha from LoCol Love. We first met in January at NCIA Seed to Sale. She signed up for a trial the very next week, then disappeared. I’ve called and emailed her a dozen times over the last 10 months, nothing. Fast forward to a fundraiser last Tuesday and who do I run into? Trisha! We have a great conversation and I invite her to the caucus since she lives in Boulder. She shows up and we introduce her to the right people. She shares that LoCol Love has a new operations manager and she’d like to revisit Simplifya in the next week or two. It’s not a done deal yet, but it’s a great example of long it can take to build relationships.
